Crystal's Corner

.

Our first decade has come and gone and the Flin Flon Community Choir can proudly stand on our many accomplishments, continuing to show the world that the word “Commmunity” can equal excellence, commitment and ambition. Now through support of the Manitoba Arts Council, the Flin Flon Community Choir looks forward to an even brighter future.

Our season has been based on spreading the word and sharing the works. Through our Northern Reflection’s Tour of Handel’s MESSIAH we have successfully presented this amazing work with local and professional soloists and musicians to the communities of The Pas, Flin Flon, Thompson and SnowLake. All places that rarely have the opportunity to experience such masterpieces in their completion. Through the help of supporters such as The Flin Flon Arts Council, Manitoba Arts Council , Calm Air and Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting we were able to successfully follow our mandate of offering this performance as a gift to the communities of The Pas, Thompson and Snowlake.

This spring we leave town again and have the interesting opportunity of performing a cross-cultural concert in the amazing Grand Tipi located in Cranberry Portage. Located on the shore of Lake Athapap, this 75 foot tall , 2000 square foot sacred venue will show case the premiere performance of Jim Hiscott and Brenda Schmidt’s work, “Night on an Old Trade Route” especially commissioned by the Flin Flon Community Choir. We will share this grand meeting place with Aboriginal  artists and will also present Metis and Inuit compositions. It will be another interesting moment in time.

Wishing you all the best in 2008.
