With 134,000+ miles, Flik's interior is well worn. Flik's dash had been cut out for a stereo as well as an equalizer in the dash panel to the left  of the guages. After rummaging around in a local yard, I was able to find and use dash
inserts from a much older bug.
The ones I found have chrome
going across them and a mech-
anical gas guage which I
refitted with a pic of Flik's
namesake. I bought cheap seat
covers for now, but plan to
recover (rebuild) the seats
this winter.
Other repairs have included:
unbolting the hood through the missing glovebox so that I could jiggle it around and get it open, and subsequent repair of inside hood release, replacement of cable and glove box (all found from a
willing donor). Replacing the broken speedo cable, (134,000+?). Replacing the voltage stabalizer on the gas guage (another used part).
Rewiring the headlamp switch so
that the dash lights are illuminated brightly (by-passing the worn out reostat). Repairing all the wiring to the headlamps and turn signals that had been cut and taped back together. New rear brakes, drums, wheel bearings. Replacing the rotted out fuel filler hoses. Installing new side view mirrors and sun visors. Freeing up the frozen seat tracks and seat belt retractors. 4 new tires.

Update: the motor is out and sitting on the workbench. Engine tin will be straightened, painted, or replaced. New firewall boards, new distributer, crank pulley, belt, wiring, plug wires, tranny mounts, intake manifold, and exhaust are planned. Engine compartment has been degreased. Found only 3 bolts holding motor to trans. Most of engine tin bolts were loose or missing. New door handles and antenna are on. Seats and carpet are coming out next.

4/17/00: All parts have been ordered. Reassembly will begin next weekend. Interior is going have to wait a bit. The escort gt
needs a clutch and some front end work to keep going.

9/15/02: Its been sometime since the last update. Since the last update we have moved, started a business, sold the old winter beater. Flik has been the summer transportion during this time. California style bumpers have been installed. Left door replaced with good used one. Paint color will be Ford's electric green.

Flik is now in the garage with no bumpers, fenders, or interior. Full blown restoration is underway!!!
