Story:

Shane West plays Landon, one of the cool guys at school, who after causing a fellow student to end up in hospital, is told he must do community work and take part in the school play to make amends. He ends up being thrown together with the girl his clique constantly taunt, the bad dressed, very Christian, Jamie (the reverends daughter). Although resistant to her charms to begin with, he grows closer to her and ends up learning a lesson about love, life and himself. (gag)

Critique:

Im all for the lovey-dovey flicks. What can I say? But I admit at first I was like Mandy Moore? The Britney clone? I dont think so!!! Turns out the chick can act! Im not saying shes Judi Dench or Jodie Foster but hell shes better than Britney and Mariahs last efforts! Obviously Im not buying into her efforts to play the plain looking Jamie (I mean cut four inches of her hair and add some hi-lights and shes not dog!) but still she does a valliant effort at playing the nave yet mature character. So in a nut shell she was good I liked her. So what about Shane West? I for one was not impressed with his last effort in Get Over It (what the hell was that accent anyway) so I was a tad sceptical as to whether he could pull of the popular young stud turned understanding yet misunderstood young man. He was terrific. The supporting cast was ok (I thought the token cool group bunch were a bit. Well token-y!). I have no idea what they did to make Darryl Hannah look so unattractive but she was great as Landons mum. So how was the storyline? Obviously it  has been done before (Here on Earth anybody!) and will no doubt be done again and again and again, but it doesnt prevent this film from making its mark. Its basically Bad Boy meets Good Girl GG shows BB the error of his ways and they fall in lurrrvve. It did lose its way in the middle a bit but ended strongly. The theme was pretty much that ya gotta have faith. And although the Christianity angle was a bit full on it and the gooey dialogue a bit full of the sugary goodness, it didnt detract from what it essentially was a solid sincere chick flick teen movie (although not the usual teen movie dick in the pie dude wheres my car crap) I laughed, I cried
