Story:

Infighting within the Mystery Machine threatens to break up the formidable crime fighting unit. When the gang are thrown back together on an island, they have to work together to reveal what or who is behind the strange things, which are happening on the island.

Critique:

As I see it, the makers of this movie could have gone one of two ways. One, they could make a Scooby Doo movie for adults (the original fans of the cartoon series) and delve into the more mature aspects, such as Shaggys stoner antics or Velmas possible same sex tendancies etc. The other option was to introduce a whole new generation to the Scooby Doo franchise and go with a pure family theme which is what they ultimately decided to do.

There is basically not an adult joke in sight so dont expect one! This movie is for the kids pure and simple. OK! So once that is sorted out and understood it is easy to enjoy this film. Its complete entertainment. The casting, although I was doubtful at the start was pretty spot on. Freddie Prize Junior played selfish obnoxious snobby, stupid Fred perfectly (although the blonde hair looked absolute crap but then I think it was supposed to). Sarah Michelle Gellar has gone from ass kicking Buffy to ass kicking Daphne (A huge stretch to be sure!). Linda Cardellini was terrific as Velma I swear to god her voice was exactly like the cartoon. OK the stars of show were definitely Scooby and Shaggy. Matthew Lillard IS Shaggy! They totally cracked me up! The worst part of the film was when they resorted to the burp and fart contest for cheap laughs. That blew. And also, CGI Scooby wasnt as sucky as I thought he would be.

All in all, I liked it. Just remember unlike Shrek which bridged the gap between kids and grownups films, this ones FOR THE KIDS!

Audience critique:

Ok seeing as this was a PG flick I was prepared for the little bastards running through the cinema being tossers. But I was presently surprised. In fact in the past four or five films Ive seen at the cinemas, this audience was the best behaved can you believe it??? (Oh except for the Alcoholic smelly guy next to Kelly!)

Score: 6.5 Scooby Heads
