PROLOGUE: Of the Disks of Power

It began with the writing of the great disks, which granted great abilities and power to those who used them with their computers. Three were given to the Math Teachers, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven were given to the Gym Teachers, great athletes and coaches of the 400 hall. And nine, nine disks were gifted to the History Teachers, who above all else desire power and are easily corrupted by it; for within these disks was bound the strength and will to govern each department.
But they were all of them deceived, for another disk was made. In the High School, in the fires of the Main Office, the Dark Lord Conner forged in secret a master disk to control all others, and into this disk, she poured her cruelty, her malice, her will to dominate all life, and, almost as an afterthought, an unstoppable virus which would enable her to control every computer on the face of the earth. One disk to rule them all. One by one, the free computers of North Olmsted fell to the power of the disk.
But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of History and Math teachers marched against the armies of the High School, and in the atrium of the Main Office, they fought for the freedom of North Olmsted. Victory was near, but the power of the disk could not be undone. It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that Patten, son of the king, took up his fathers sword, and ejected the ruling disk from the laptop of the dark lord. Conner, the Enemy of the free peoples of North Olmsted, was defeated. The disk passed to Patten, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever. But the hearts of men are easily corrupted, and the disk of power has a will of its own. It betrayed Patten to his death, and some things that should not have been forgotten, were lost. History became legend, legend became myth, and for two and a half thousand years, the disk passed out of all knowledge. . .
