CABER TOSSING, WHOO-HOO!
And here are pictures from the second toss!
TOSS NUMBER TWO
Oh, I neglected to mention the part BEFORE the caber is standing straight up :-). First you have to GET it to stand up, and with a 43 pound tree trunk that is quite difficult. You have to start at one end and then sort of walk it up. That's what I'm doing here. I'm pretty sure getting assistance of any kind is illegal. At any rate it would definitely be less "macho".
Ok so the caber's up. Now you gotta get underneath it, without crushing your fingers ideally, and then HEAVE it up (but simultaneously without letting it fall over, because that would be a Very Bad Thing). It should go without saying, lift with the knees, not with the back, or you are going to be in some serious pain!
And here we have the balancing stage. I think this is definitely the hardest part because before you can even THINK about getting some forward momentum you better be darn sure that monstrosity is balanced on your shoulder. I think the strain is pretty evident on my face; sSometimes this stage would go on for several desperate minutes...
Believe it or not this is balanced and right before I start running like a maniac; trust me once you start moving to stop would be suicidal ;-)
Hoo-rah! This one turned out perfectly, or as perfectly as one could hope for. To my recollection this was about a 12:30 which is absolutely gorgeous...now if only I could do that with one weighing about 100 lbs more and 5' longer, well I'd be set to compete in the Scottish games :-)
