The woman who started the magic- if it weren't for Joanne Rowling, Harry Potter wouldn't
exist. It's hard to imagine that only one person wrote these extraordinary stories.
It's also hard to believe that this brilliant woman was once on welfare, writing Harry
Potter and the Philospher's Stone on scraps of paper during her daughter, Baby Jessica's
naps. Jo was born July 31st,1965, in Chipping Sodbury near Bristol. She was the eldest of two children,in a book-loving family. Her favorite teacher in school was Miss Shepherd. She went to Exeter University for 4 years, studying languages. Harry Potter popped into her head on a train ride. Not having a pen (that worked),she thought up characters,the setting,and more, all during the ride (she later scribbled down this information in a cheap notebook). She didn't give up work to write "Philospher's Stone", instead she worked for Manchester Chamber of Commerce. J.K.Rowling had Jessica when she turned twenty-eight.
