Fletcher 6 - Stanton 5
The Fletcher Senators (3-3) defeated the Stanton Blue Devils (4-4) in what was one of the most amazing come backs in Fletcher Baseball history. In the fist six innings, it seemed like Fletcher was just destined to lose the game. Fletcher starter Kip Lane didn't give up very many hard hit balls, but Stanton kept beating them with small ball. It seemed like every time Fletcher hit the ball hard, the Stanton defenders would make the play of their lives to catch the ball. They just couldn't catch a break! That was until the bottom of the seventh when Justin Preckajlo led off the inning with a home run to cut the Stanton lead to 5-2. The Senators kept rallying buy working the counts on the pitcher and then eventually getting walked. The score was now 5-3 when junior outfielder Jason Hiers is up with bases loaded and rifles a ground ball that tipped the diving second baseman's glove and into the outfield scoring 2 runs to tie the game.
They go into extra innings and Marshall Deal, who pitched terrific in his first two innings of work, started to get in a little bit of trouble. So they bring in Preckajlo (1-0) to the mound, and he strikes out his first two batters to end the inning. It seemed like it couldn't get any better for the sophomore Preckajlo... but it did. For the second inning in a row he led off with a home run, this one a walk-off to dead centerfield on the first pitch he saw to end the game. Justin (4 HRs on the year) will remember this game for the rest of his life.
Fletcher now takes on Eagle's View Academy in the winner's bracket game of the tournament tomorrow at 4 PM.
