Fletcher 4 - Lee 3

The Fletcher Senators (10-8) narrowly avoided a disaster to the Lee Generals tonight in the first round of the Gateway Conference tournament.  Fletcher starter Kip Lane pitched three perfect innings, before leaving way to senior Chris Zambelli (1-1).  Fletcher had a perfect game heading into the sixth inning, but a bunt single ended the bid.  Fletcher then started to mentally falter.  Zambelli threw a pickoff attempt to second base into centerfield, then when the ball was thrown back into the field, the second baseman threw the ball to the third baseman, who wasn't paying attention.  The ball then went to the fence causing the tying run to score.  Fletcher took the lead back in the bottom half of the sixth when Devin Gonzalez doubled to left scoring Justin Preckajlo.  Fletcher takes on Sandalwood tomorrow at the Wood.  The winner will advance to play at JU in the tournament semi-finals.
