Note: this page is old news I'm just keeping it around for some of my trommel history.
I am currently working on a battery powered mini
trommel. It will be smaller than the gas
powered mini trommels. It will work with
a electric water pump, and run off a inexpensive
garden tractor battery so it should be a very quite and
portable system. Its still under design
and construction so stay tuned for more info....
Here is a wiper motor I want to try on the trommel as it didn't have the Umph to drive my puffer drywasher.
Here is the begining of the battery powered trommel, very small and portable,
I will show updates as they happen.
Barrel is 24 inches long 8 1/2 dia. Frame 20 inches high 30 long, the little
Keene A51A will be used on it.
Just finished the hopper and barrel this is a very light weight little
trommel.
Here the trommel has finished frame, hopper, barrel, and sluice hopper.
Still needs sluice hopper collector, sluice, spraybar, discharge trough,
and motor drive..
Finished the sluice hopper collector and sluice modifications, getting
closer.
Barrel is same dia. as larger trommel just shorter with finer screen inserted.
Here the spraybar and motor are finished, the little wiper motor turns
the barrel at 12 RPM at
13 volts 1 1/2 amps, next business is to field test this little one. The
Keene sluice angle is easily
changed by slipping the front of it into 3 different sets of holes
on the sluice hopper adapter,
just behind the motor. I cut the discharge legs 1 inch shorter than the
hopper end legs for some
barrel slope.
This is a test I did for 1 hour, I ran trommel and the electric water pump
for over
an hour. No apparent problems, motor didn't overheat, my old 365 amp hour
garden tractor battery never dropped in voltage. The trommel pulls 1 1/2
amps
the 2000 gph electric water pump draws 8 1/2 amps for a total of 10 amp
draw.
Next stop some gold bearing creek somewhere.
The battery powered trommel is finished now and
it looks very good. I hope to have the motor
tested for durability next. It will easily fit
on the front or back of a 4-wheeler and doesn't
need wheels. I hope to have it at Stanton
AZ in a few weeks to try it out , hopefully there
will be a little water in the creeks.....Bill
