ABSU: "More Darkness and Hate!!!"
I doubt there's a need to introduce ABSU to Fortitude readers, thus I'll just mention that they are back with their new "Tara" album. Another thing is that this interview was supposed to be posted months ago, therefore some questions may seem out-of-time to you. Anyhow, check out what Equitant thinks about the current state of the band. (Krasniy; 18.08.2001)
Greetings to Equitant! How are things in Southern Communion?
Things are ok here.. just writing new material for the next album.. going well!
As long as some of our readers might not be well-familiar with ABSU activities, could you cite some of your most important biographical facts.
We have 5 albums out now... the first Barathrum '93...The Sun of Tiphareth '94...The Third Storm of Cythraul '96...In The Eyes of Ioldanach '98 and Tara '2001... demos from 1991 The Temples of Offal. and e.p.s And Shineth Unto the Cold Cometh '95
It's been for about 2 years since "In the eyes of Ioldanach" had been released. Is ABSU ready to spawn the next effort? Please, give us the details. (Please note that the questions were issued before the release of "Tara" in 2001. - Ed.)
Well, its been 3 years.. yes, we feel people have forgot about us some... Now we are back with this new album Tara... We feel its our best album to date!.. Our next album will be called ABSU.
This will be influenced by the ancient Sumerian ancients.. this one will be not of the Celtic myths... more darkness and hate!
I've heard that you are currently contributing your drumming skills to the second MELECHESH full-length. How did you guys get together? By the way, have the recording sessions finished already? When is the album supposed to be released?
Yes he is playing drums for Melechesh... the album is called "Djinn" on osmose .... this is some real Mesopotamian metal! very good music! proscriptor and myself have known them for a few years now...they will work on the new album very soon!.. a tour might happen soon as well.
Are you still collaborating with Osmose prod? How has your cooperation been through all these years?
Oh yes, we have known Herve since the early days of osmose.. since like 1991. Osmose has treated us very well.. tour support, promotion etc...things have been well with them!
I wonder if ABSU is going to tour Eastern Europe sometime soon. By the way, have you ever been proposed to give a show in Russia, which is my motherland?
I'm not sure of this.. the most east we have ever played is Slovenia... we would like to play in Russia one day for sure! I'm just not sure how we would get promotion for this...
The U.S. Black Metal scene seems to be getting stronger with each month and such acts as JUDAS ISCARIOT, KRIEG, KULT OV AZAZEL and of course ABSU prove it. How do you evaluate such tendencies? I wonder if BM is getting more popular in the U.S.
Yes, I guess you could say its getting stronger...I dont follow to many new acts.. Thornspawn from Texas is a great band! and Necrovore from the late 80's....yes, I see it getting more popular.. its nothing like Europe though.. Europe is much better for the BM scene I feel.... its a lot closer together, as America is more spared apart in distance..so the scene is more
disconnected from each state...
Which by your opinion are the strongest underground acts to date? By the way, what music besides Metal do you prefer?
Some of my favorite bands are all from the 80's .. though I like others like Aura Noir, Darkthrone, Mayhem etc... I dont like to much new stuff.... other forms of music?.. well, Rock..
Classical.. Jazz.. I also like electronic music like DIE FORM, LAIBACH, SVEN VATH, KRAFTWERK, etc... My solo effort Equitant is all electronic dark music these days.. I have 4 new promos released through my "Black Montana Productions".. all on cassette format.. you can look at the website for more info: http://equitant.cjb.net if you are into electronic music you might have an interest in it.
Do you manage to make a living with ABSU activies or you guys work somewhere? And generally, is it possible to make a living on serious Metal music in the U.S.?
umm no no.. we cant live off ABSU, We all have normal jobs here.. I wish I could do ABSU fulltime and spend more time with it.. The hours I waste at my job are to many!...
Could you enumerate your creative plans for the 2001?
We plan to write music for now.... we have a few new tracks written for the new album "Absu"... we might tour Europe in the end of 2001... we are in need of a session guitarist and singer.. so its real hard for us to get to tour as 3 piece.. we just can't do it...so now we just do promotion for Tara.. and write new tracks!
