The year is 1957. The halcyon days of the '50s are in full flower. Life is good, and getting better--on this everyone can agree.
Almost everyone, that is. Blacks are still called "coloreds"--or worse. Nearly 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation they have yet to achieve any real measure of the rights it guaranteed them. But a change is gonna come--not without tragedy, violence, and death, yes, but it will come.
