| We have our words on charts and introduce one chart at a time. Sight Words are words that must be memorized because they do not follow the rules. One Vowel Rule: When there is one vowel in a word it usually says its short sound. Two Vowel Rule: When there are two vowels in a word, the first vowel is long and says its name and the second vowel is silent. The five vowels are a, e, i, o, and u. a says /a/ as in alligator e says /e/ as in elephant i says /i/ as in inchworm o says /o/ as in octopus u says /u/ as in umbrella bird |
