GROUP RULES
You do not need to have a piece of work with you to participate. If you are not writing, you're certainly welcome to attend. If you'd like to have your peice read and critiqued, RSVP to the Webmaven and bring it. You may bring a chapter of a novel in progress, a finished unpublished novel, or a short story. It makes no difference if it's Chapter 1 or Chapter 101. The Critique Group will deal with the chapter presented. This is fiction only ... no poetry, no non-fiction, and no creative non-fictionl
1. Bring multiple copies to distribute. After the piece is read and critiqued, the copies will be returned to you with the critiquer's notes.
2. The writer should read their own piece, however, you may ask someone else to read for you.
3. Depending upon how many pieces there are to read, there may not be time to get to all of them.
4. Before beginning, we'll review what constitutes an acceptable criticism. Be warned ... this will not be a stroke group! If you need or want stroking, then ask your mother to read your work. All criticism will, however, be "craft" based.
5. If you plan on participating, please bring a pad of paper & pen to make notes as the piece is read. If you're not making notes, then either the piece is perfect (not likely) or you're not doing your fair share of critiquing.
6. The work must stand on its own. Writers must not prefect the reading with comments. After critiquing, the writer will be given 30 seconds to respond.
7. If pain easily moves you to tears, please bring a handkerchief.
If you plan on attending the Writer's Critique Group, please email the Webmaven 24 hours prior to the meeting.
If no emails are received by the deadline, then the Critique Group will not meet.
