A Tribute to Battlestrat
With the recent coming of lots of new units, maps and mods for Battlezone 2, Battlestrat is made and is pretty popular. I like the fact that most everything is dirt-cheap and the game itself is more fast-paced and bent on massproduction. Lots of units means lots of lag. There are many tweaks made to the game which didnt have to be done, but we were all curious as to what the game would be like if it were. For instance, the Scavengers are made of cardboard (or something as weak as it) and Gun Spires fire very quickly. There are new weapon identities, like the amazing Multilock II or the pitifully weak but nonetheless impressive neutron gun, and the old omitted weapons (Sandbag Missile, Rocket Bomb) are back in this version. Almost every weapon was hacked somehow in either range, damage, or visual effects. All of the game's sounds have also been modified to more realistic, biting sound effects.

More happy changes include the massive spinning and jerking you endure (if you dont die immediately) when there is an ejection, and the random direction it propels you, sometimes screwing your plans. The tripled (I think) walking speed is a good addition, too. You can move faster than a walker heheh. Problems have arisen using this mod, for instance, people walking into servers and getting bad assets because they are using a bad version (which is changed far too often) or because they are using normal Battlezone 2... and a lot of newbies do this. Another bad thing is the terrible balance of the game. Simply put, the prices of the buildings make this game unbalanced!! Scions can easily rush in and kill their enemies with furies in under 10 minutes, and ISDF Uber-Towers are far too effective to allow anyone to get into the base.

Overall, the Battlestrat is fun to play (and MPI is too easy) but is completely useless for competetive play. The cheap units allow such a variety of rushing, and units like the Sentinel are impossible to kill and have amazingly powerful weapons (dual plasma strams are pretty tough to stop if that thing is strafing fast). The sonic boom is, and probably always will be, amazingly overpowered, especially in dual mode... and especially in a mauler. The multilock can kill with a touch, and the UBER DEATH CANNON is way too powerful. Even though there are so many balance issues in this mod... I still find it OK. I like being able to use insanely overpowered weapons, I like being able to fly, and I like being able to sweep down the enemy recycler in 2 minutes with a sentinel. I still like smoking tanks from above with the Valkyrie model, and I love the Dual Blast Broadsword. If not for all the insane stuff in this game, it wouldnt be a good mod. It is pretty sad as far as defensive capability (turrets cost 12, Uber-Tower kills all) but anything is possible.

Daku, the maker of this mod, is evil, however. I have come to this conclusion after realizing he watches "Radiskull & Devil Doll"  and the fact that he wants feedback so badly he would be willing to hold a gun to your throat. Evil comes in many forms, I suppose. Perhaps this is brought upon him by Styx and the Mechanization of the world (read "Brave New World") due to the renaming of the Constructor to "Mr. Roboto". Alas, though, despite this conclusion, I still say to Daku, Domo Arigato for Battlestrat!
