Sideoats Grama

Bouteloua curtipendula

Here is a nice speciman of Sideoats Grama near the end of July. This Sideoats plant is in its second growing season. Sideoats and Little Bluestem make good companions. Both grasses are moderate in height and are good companions for prairie wildflower species. Sideoats Grama is drought tolerant and is said to grow better on drier prairies; however our experience so far tells us it really enjoys our deep, fertile soil. Most sources say Sideoats will grow up to 3 feet tall, but we had a number of plants grow to 4 feet in height.
