Golden Alexanders

Zizia aurea

Golden Alexanders begin to bloom in May; by early June much of our native planting is dominated by yellow blossoms. Despite its frequency, Golden Alexanders are not invasive. By the fall, one has to look awhile to find specimens for seed gathering. The dried seed heads look similar to those of Dill.
