It's easy to see why Big Bluestem is sometimes referred to as Turkeyfoot. I have yet to see a photograph of this species that both gives you a good look at all its features as well as a realistic sense of what Big Blue is like live and in person. On our mesic prairie the Big Bluestem is usually between six and seven feet tall.
