Heckler & Koch G80 Weapons System
Heckler & Koch G80 Weapons System
G80 Rifle
G80KA1 Carbine
MG80 Light Machine Gun

Replacing three variants of the G80, Heckler & Koch offers three versions (the KA1 being the newer version to come on the market) of the G80 weapons system. The whole frame is made of ceramics, and other weight reducing measures mainly in the stock area, and other parts. It has a collapsing stock as standard for all versions, and mounts shock pads to reduce recoil. The handle can incorporate all types of standard scopes, and mounts a Knopler Image Magnification-3 scope to get the best accuracy. Other types of scopes may be used. On top of the hand rail is a secondary mount to allow other systems to be mounted to improve accuracy. It also does not mount any backup iron sights, therefore the weapon must be aimed with the scope. The secondary mount can accept the new GN45 combined Low-Light/Thermographic scope. Cocking the weapon is fully ambidextrous, allowing a full sight picture and ejection of jammed rounds is also ambidextrous, including manual clip ejection. Selection of firing modes is also manual, with a switch to the top of the grip. Different than the standard Heckler & Koch design, Carl Meins, chief designer, replied that "the weapon in itself is a new design, why not change the way you select the mode of fire?" Despite the different versions, the weapon is chambered to only fire caseless 5.56 x 33mm NATO rounds, giving an excellent platform that can use all standard ammunition. Smartlink II is mounted as standard. And all fire from 45 round clips. However, there is an option to use specialized U-Drums (mainly in the LSW version) for added firepower. All are translucent, and snap together to allow more efficient carrying of ammunition. To overcome the problem of different frames, each type is mounted by two retaining lugs, one at the front, where the scope handle ends, and the rear where the handguard ends. This allows quick changing of each type.
The kit comes with the following items:
The case offers shock protection (Barrier 5) and is weatherproofed.
G80: The first variant is the assault rifle variant, which has a barrel mounted Imp. Gas. Vent II, which is modified to allow rifle grenades to be fired from it. The handguard mounts a TAG rail mount on the underside to improve the firepower of the weapon.
G80KA1: The G80KA1 variant was an original SSG variant, but with the redesign, it is now part of the G80 system. The handguard is shorter, and is designed to mount the Modular Weapon System, per the original requirements of the SSG. It allows the individual soldier to mount accessories that he or she wishes to mount. From tactical lights to laser sights to ultrasound sights, it can be mounted. Though it should be noted that some accessories cannot be mounted on the top rail in order to prevent the obstruction of the scope. Mounted on the barrel is the new Advanced Gas-Vent II system, allowing suppressors to be mounted without interfering with the weapon. However, it does not offer any compensation when a suppressor is mounted.
MG80: The squad auto version, the MG80 is a heavier barreled version of the G80, using a two part system. The first part is the standard mounting hardware to attach it to the rifle. The second part is the spare barrel assembly. The barrel extends to the chamber area, and has an ambidextrous release system. In addition to using the standard magazines, Hekler & Koch offers a specialized U-clip that holds 100 rounds of ammunition for the squad auto role. The weapon system comes with one for left handed and right handed firers. This adds another 2 kilograms to the weapon, and can be bought from a local HK dealer for 25¥ apiece. Mounted on the bottom is a flip out bipod for stability when firing. It should be noted that the bipod must be deployed slightly to release the barrel, as it is attached to it. To handle the increased rate of fire and recoil, the highest level, the Imp. Gas-Vent IV was mounted, and when combined with the shock pads, and bipod, allow accurate fire support on the battlefield.

Indirectly I have to thank James Meiers for creating the original G80, then me drawing it, then redrawing it, then turning it into something cool.
