Standard light machinegun of the CIS, the RPK-2058 is an advanced retread of the famous light machinegun. Using ceramics to lighten weight, as well as plastics in some areas, it is lighter than most in it's class. It fires standard cased 5.45 x 18mm rounds. It mounts a bipod in front of the forearm guard. And continuing with Russian tradition, there is a wire cutter mounted near the folding mechanism as well. Like all Kalisnikov weapons, it is gas-operated, and features an innovative chamber based recoil reduction to reduce recoil. Additional measures is a firing to better seat the weapon while firing, combined with a shock pad to reduce weapon weight further. One innovative feature is the use of a dual feed system. It can accept standard 40 round clips and when removed, can be used as a belt fed weapon as well. However, it can only fire one method. This method of operation is similar to the US M249 SAW of the late 20th Century. When a clip is inserted, the mechanism disables the belt feed mechanism, and vice versa when a belt is loaded into the weapon. Mounted on the barrel is an Improved Gas-Vent III offering superior recoil compensation, making the RPK-2058 more accurate under fire. It also features a barrel changing system to improve reliability. A typical gunner will carry another spare barrel as part of the basic combat load. Included is a rangefinder for more accurate fire.
