The SA-26 (9K78) Man Portable SAM is the current SAM used by the Commonwealth of Independent States Army. The system is a direct descendant of the SA-18 "Grouse" SAM. The main improvements over the years is the addition of a more improved sighting system that allows better acquisition and destruction of highly maneuverable targets.
Using a passive infrared homing system, the 9M89 missile is designed to shoot down highly maneuverable targets. The main part of the body uses standard flip out fins to direct the missile. The rear fins also help, being similar to the R-99 Anaconda missile, using a "trellis" layout to achieve superb maneuverability. Designers chose to include a thrust vectoring system, to achieve a total of 15 G turns. Using a solid rocket motor, the missile is able to achieve a velocity of 1500 m/s. This allows a quicker reaction time compared to other systems, which cannot match this speed. This gives the missile a maximum range of 6 kilometers, and able to engage targets up to 5,000 meters in altitude. The acquisition seeker is mounted on the bottom of the tube, just forward of the grip. This detects targets within 4-7 microns ensuring rapid target acquisition. An IFF receiver is also mounted to prevent friendly targets from being shot down. The receiver is fully reprogrammable, allowing various users to adapt the system to there own specific needs. Also, the warhead is designed for maximum lethality against aircraft, using a fragmenting warhead as standard.
The 9K44 launcher assembly consists of a gripstock, thermal sight, the launcher itself and a display sighting unit. The display sighting unit is fully collapsible, allowing the weapon to be stowed efficiently. The rear of the launcher accepts a unified 9K43 missile tube. This contains the missile in an environmentally sealed container, which is inserted into the launcher. The 9K43 tube is designed like the old Armbrust AT weapon, using a kicker charge to ignite the motor, allowing launches from inside of buildings, only needing a 1 meter clearance for the ejecting tube. After launch, the missile is fire and forget, not requiring any assistance from the gunner.

The missile itself is highly maneuverable, allowing rapid engagement of targets. This gives it a +2 to any Reaction Tests Reloading a fresh tube requires a Complex Action if the character is doing it by him/herself, or a Simple Action if there is another person to reload the missile.
