Desert Arms 54c Pueblo Corporate Council Special Forces Sniper Rifle
The 54c is the standard sniper rifle of the Pueblo Corporate Council Special Forces (PCCSF). The weapon is based on the Walther MA2100, and the later WA2750 sniper rifles. Pueblo, needing a reliable, sophisticated weapon, opted to allow several firms to submit their designs. Heckler & Koch submitted the PSG-54EA1, an advanced version of their popular export sniper rifle. Remington as well submitted a design, the M700A3 Sniping Rifle, a version of their popular M700 series of rifles. Desert Arms however, submitted their 54c Sniper Rifle.
The 54c features a typical bullpup layout, excepting for the top mounted clip that is chambered in 7.62mm caseless. The clip uses a helical design to allow the maximum number of rounds to be loaded without increasing the size of the weapon. Also, the top mounted clip adds to necessary stability when firing from an uncomfortable position, as well as giving the weapon impressive accuracy, and the solenoid trigger reduces the common jerk of the firer firing. The weapon is fully ambidextrous, with the safety and cocking lever on both sides of the weapon. An adjustable stock is also mounted, allowing the sniper to adjust it to their physical proportions. Added to the stock was an autostabilization system, providing an additional level of recoil compensation necessary for pinpoint shots. Mounted on the top rail is a folding bipod, able to swing to either side by a few degrees to allow the sniper to track a target while still laying down. The barrel is free floating, allowing a full barrel silencer to be mounted on the weapon, reducing weapon noise, with the action somewhat silenced, and the trigger guard is able to be swung out, allowing a soldier to fire the weapon with gloves.
Most of the weapon is constructed from advanced alloys that drastically reduce weapon weight, as well as other weight saving measures. The weapon is completely weatherproof, and is very rugged for the type of weapon that it is.
The Pueblo SF techs have developed Smartlink III, and have equipped each and everybody with it, making field operations better coordinated, as well as including a rangefinder. The other special system is the combined Low-Light/Thermographic/Flare Compensation/Regular Vision scope with a small pulse-radar system derived from a Sentry Gun system. The weapon is mounted on the multi-spectral scope, which has a battery in the stock, under the cheek rest. The radar is an addition, allowing the sniper to acquire targets in inclement weather. This system reportedly is a LPIR (Low Probability of Intercept Radar), which uses a disguised radar signal which hampers enemy DFing (Direction Finding) the target, preventing a target from taking evasive action, or taking offensive/defensive measures against the character when using the system. This has been reported to have a range of 1,500 meters, well beyond the range of the weapon, allowing the sniper to acquire and "lead" a target if he/she wishes. This also has EMP suppression and a fully charged battery will let the sniper to keep it on for 4 hours of continuous use. However, the snipers usually send a "burst" of beams to acquire a target, then "freeze" it to determine how many, then the sniper can position himself to fire. The small size and weight of the system allows a PSF sniper a great deal of flexibility, with the ruggedness, accuracy, and size making the 54c a favorite sniper rifle to use.

The 54c has an integral Smartlink III system, and has the combined Thermographic\Flare Compensation\Low-Light scope with the LPIR system mounted (see below). The weapon has an autostabilization stock mounted that offers 1 point of recoil compensation, and the bipod 2 points when used. The Free Floating barrel gives the firer an additonal die to his/her Firearms/Rifles roll. The solenoid trigger gives an additional -1 modifier at long range, and a -2 modifier at Extreme range.
Game Notes
The LPIR system described above is simple, it just allows the sniper to "pulse" with a higher chance of escaping detection. This does not mean the system is not subject to chaff, or stealth systems, it's just a harder radar to detect. The radar itself has an effective rating of 12, to acquire battlefield targets, the high number reflects the overall sophistication of the system. GM's discretion is advised on modifiers. ECM is also not very effective, as the radar's signal is a lot harder to jam due to the special frequencies, reduce the rating by 2 points to reflect that. Note that there is no minimum, this is intended to show some realism as well, as lower rating jammers will not have the necessary "oomph" to cut it. Use the radar's rating as the target number for Opposed Tests. Note that the characters have to
find it first, any sensor tests trying to acquire the signal (DF, or whatever) add a +4 modifier due to the protocols used. LPIR can detect invisible targets (much like an ultrasound sensor) at full range, and can track up to 15 targets on a full basis, 25 targets on a shared basis. The system displays the targets range. The display can be brought up in the users Display Link, or in the scope to display the information. Note that the LPIR data is superimposed over the low-light, thermographic and day vision, to allow the sniper to see the target in varying conditions. The system displays a box on the target, in which range data is presented, as well as the degrees it is at. When the system locks on a target, a cross appears. The sniper must mentally designate the target. If the sniper is out of line with the target, a diamond x will appear on the scope if the target is out of the scopes field of view. When the weapon is properly aligned, the cross will turn into a diamond, indicating that the system is ready. The system gives an additional -2 to the target number. The integral battery pack has a four hour long "life". Players can do short pulses, but must not exceed four hours or the battery runs out. The battery is mounted in the pistol grip, and it takes a Simple Action to replace/remove. When the LPIR system is interfaced with the Tactical Computer (pg. 53, Shadowtech), the system will also add this data to the information that the tactical computer is already processing. This however adds one dice to any necessary tests involving the relevant systems. Obviously, the character must have both systems in order to benefit. This system may also be hooked up to a PARGET style system, or Battletac, for combined-arms operations.
The multi-spectral scope is similar to the one used on the USMC M42A rifle, incorporating many features. It does differ in that it includes the LPIR system, and that the whole sighting system is tied into the Smartlink III system, allowing full DNI handling, increasing the reaction time of the sniper. This awareness gives the sniper a + 2 to Reaction, when using the scope. However, the system must be in use to be used effectively. This also applies when the sniper sees the target, allowing him/her to react more quickly to a dynamic situation more quickly. The whole sight system weighs 2 kg, with shockproof plastics, and a special head for the LPIR system, making it one of the most rugged scopes in the world.
M537 HVDP Round, per 10 shots
The M537 is a dual penetrating round optimized for high lethality against armored targets. The round consists of a tungsten bullet, with a HEAP core. The tungsten is the carrier for the HEAP round, which penetrates the armor, then a chemical trigger sets off the embedded HEAP round. For game notes, treat the bullet as a single bullet, not two separate bullets. The first damage code is modified as such: - 2 Power/ + 1 Level . This is the "carrier" round, which is applied first. All other modifiers apply. For the embedded HEAP round, there is no armor reduction, since the carrier effectively made a hole for it. Layered armor and dermal armor still applies when determining damage. The HEAP round modifies the secondary round by +3 Power/ +1 Level. Note that if the outer shell does not penetrate the armor, the HEAP round damage can still be applied.
