| He�s one of the precursor of the Mediterranean Progressive. Dj and discographic producer, Gigi D�Agostino has been able to create cleverly and steadily an his own style. As a disc jockey he really invented the Mediterranean Progressive: minimalistic sounds, catchy, latin and expecially mediterranean melodies. As a producer, Gigi D�Agostino�s strenght- or GGDAG, the pseudonym he uses for him club productions- consists in trasforming a piece, originally destined only for the discos, in a succes for the big public. Gigi D�Agostino�s lifestyle? His piece �BLA BLA BLA� summarizes it perfectly: �It is a piece i wrote thinking of all the people who talk and talk without saying anything!�. Lyrics and music by Gigi D�Agostino! He was born on 17 December 1967, with an eventful past, spent between Torino and Brescia (where the Media Records studios are placed), Gigi has always had a big hope: to be someone in the great world of the disco music. He loves different kind of music, expecially electronic. He starts his carrer as a Dj in 1983, when he was only 16, by organizing parties in the clubs. His debut was in a club near Torino (Italy), the Woodstock. He has been dj resident of the Ultimo Impero since 1993 to 1998. After successes like �SWEETLY�, he enters in the team of Gianfranco Bortolotti, the general manager of Media Records. Gigi suddenly reaches the top of the hit parades. His single �FLY�, published in 96 with the BXR Noise Maker, the label created by the Media Records for the Mediterranean Progressive, reaches the top of the sales in whole Italy. Another single, another succes: � GIGI�S VIOLIN�, very popular in the clubs and in the national and european networks, confirms the Mediterranean Progressive as an overground phenomenon. The indefatigable D�Agostino continues to work hardly, insiperd by an endless talent, but this time he works with a friend who belongs to the Media Records, R.A.F by Picotto, and his melodies become angelic: �ANGEL�S SYMPHONY�. Even his biggest project, �GIGI D�AGOSTINO�, a 19 tracks album, turns in gold, and sells over 60000 copies. Gigi�s music starts to change, but it is not only a change: it�s a real evolution, a growth originated from his experiences. His sound become more melodic, at midway between House and Progressive, with more energical and melodical sonorities and less obsessive rhythms. 97 is the turn of �GIN LEMON�, and 98 is the turn of �ELISIR (YOUR LOVE)�, one of the most danced pieces in that year. In �99 Gigi launches �CUBALIBRE�, followed by the great �BLA BLA BLA�: and it�s a success again. �EURODANCE COMPILATON� belongs to the same year: it is mixed by Gigi and contains 5 unpublished tracks.With this compilation he obtains the platinum disc and he�s rewarded as Best Producer in 99 at Italian Dance Awards. On October the volcanic D�Agostino publishes another hit: �ANOTHER WAY�. The winterafter, his second album, �L�AMOUR TOUJOURS�, that brings him to te 10 position in the sales parade in Italy, and he reaches the Platinm Disc.The album is an hard work: a collection of 23 tracks in two cds, that include his biggest successes and inhedit pieces, like �L�AMOUR TOUJOURS�. The album is a double cd, one for the heart and one for the feet, the first one to sing and to understand, the second one to dance with freedom. The verb and the rhythm, the world and the body, the evolution and the tribal side that is inside of all of us. Gigi obtains an award like best dj- producer of the year in the past edition of Red Bull Awards in Italy. He also boasts to have played in the best italian and european clubs: Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, England (in 1996 he played in the Ministry of Sound in London with Mauro Picotto) . What to say about 2000? 1.000.000 copies sold in Germany, 200.000 copies of �THE RIDDLE� in France. Two Eps in 2000: �TECNO FES� published in August, and �TECNO FES E.P. Vol.2� in December. 2001 starts with the big collaboration with Albertino, and the results is �SUPER�, the hit that brings him a lot of prices: best dance producer at the PIM (Italian Music Award), and Public Award at the Danish DJs Award in Coopenaghen. 2001 continues with another cd: its name is �L�AMOUR TOUJOURS� again, but this time it is made by 3 songs: two version of �L�AMOUR TOUJOURS� and the great �UN GIORNO CREDI�, a single made in collaboration with Edoardo Bennato. �UN GIORNO CREDI� reaches the top of the parades in whole Italy and it becomes one of the most played song in all the national and international networks. December 2001 is the turn of �IL GRANDE VIAGGIO�, a compilation of his favourite songs, including old electronical pieces and inhedits. New rhythms and melodies, an huge innovation in the italian musical background. He�s rewarded as Best Dance Producer at the last Italian Dance Award, and nowadays his succes is uncountable: prices in whole Europe, he is one of the most famous djs in his category. How�s Gigi while not working? He�s a shamed personage, an artist who doesn�t like to live under reflectors: He loves his privacy and he never reveals the details of his private life. |
