Ranma ½ Episodes’ Summaries

 

 

SEASON 1 (TV Series)

Soun Tendo, the patriarch of the Tendo family, is the proud owner of the “Tendo Anything-Goes Martial Arts Training Hall”. He has three daughters: Kasumi (19), Nabiki (17), and Akane (16). One of them will be engaged to a stranger called Ranma Saotome who is supposed to arrive during the day with his father, Genma, who also is Soun’s friend.

Before coming to Japan, father and son Saotome made a trip to China where they trained and accidentally fell into one of many cursed springs. Each spring has its own story, but each time, someone or something drowned in there hundreds of years ago. The curse is that who ever falls into a spring will transform into whoever or whatever drowned in there. Now, Genma becomes a giant panda and Ranma becomes a female version of himself. Each time they will be splashed by cold water, they will transform into their alter egos. Hot water will reverse the effect… until the next time.

The Tendo family is waiting for father and son to arrive, but instead come a giant panda and a young girl. They will have to know the truth. Kasumi and Nabiki will generously let Akane have Ranma as her new fiancé. The youngest daughter is not thrilled by the idea because she thinks Ranma is a pervert due to a little accident in the bathroom where both of them saw each other naked. Of course, Akane thought she was going to see a girl, but Ranma was transformed back into a boy then.

Their relationship doesn’t start well, but they will have to live under the same roof and learn to like each other or at least, to bear each other.

 

            EPISODE 3: Shakespeare-spouting high school swordsman Kuno meets (female) Ranma who becomes his new love interest. Kuno now loves Akane Tendo and the mysterious “Pig-tailed girl”. Of course, Ranma doesn’t appreciate that a guy likes “her” so they will decide to fight. If she wins, Kuno will allow her to date him, but if Kuno wins, then Ranma still has to date him.

 

            EPISODE 4: Ranma is still reeling from Kuno’s declaration of love for his female side. Meanwhile, Nabiki who loves making money found a new source of income: selling pictures of Akane and of (female) Ranma to Kuno. Of course, Ranma will discover what is going on and will fight Kuno again. At the end Ranma wins and sees for the 1^st time the pictures that he judges more sexy that Akane’s… This one, mad at him, starts beating him (as always) while Ranma calls her “uncute”.

 

            EPISODE 5: Kuno hates Ranma because he thinks that Ranma keeps the “Pig-tailed girl” for himself. Akane sends Ranma to chiropractor Dr. Tofu after beating him up. There she will answer a phone call from Kasumi who is already on the way over. Dr. Tofu who really “likes” Kasumi begins acting weird and can’t concentrate on anything. Now Akane knows who Dr. Tofu’s love interest is, news that breaks her heart since she had a crush on him for years now.

 

            EPISODE 6: Dr. Tofu acts weird around his sweetheart so his patients know it is NOT a good idea to stay around when Kasumi pays him a visit, so they all go away to let those two alone. He even dances around in the park with his skeleton “Betty” on his back. When Genma advices Ranma to be nicer to his fiancée, he grudgingly admits that Akane may not be so unattractive after all.

 

            EPISODE 7: We meet a new character – Ryoga Hibiki, a boy who has NO sense of directions. For him, travel is torture because it can take him days or even weeks to find his way around the block. Ryoga comes to Furinkan High to settle a score with Ranma.

 

            EPISODE 8: Ryoga and Ranma continue to fight while Nabiki takes bet from gawking students. Akane tries to stop the two guys and ends up caught in the middle. Ryoga accidentally throws razor sharp weapons straight to Akane. They will cut her (finally) long hair...

 

            EPISODE 9: Newly-coiffed Akane learns that Ranma is not always a jerk. Ryoga explains why he came all the way to Japan to fight with Ranma. First, Ranma thinks that Ryoga was mad because he always took food from him, but it’s actually because they were supposed to fight in a yard behind Ryoga’s house where he arrived days later (since he got lost). Ranma waited for him then but after the day ended he went back home. At the same time, Ryoga will tell his adventures when he ended up in China where he fell into a spring because a giant panda and a red-haired girl pushed him. Do these weird characters remind you of something? Ranma is then the cause of Ryoga’s new curse. He transforms into a little lack pig each time he’s splashed with water.

 

            EPISODE 10: Akane sees a little black pig that she will adopt and call P-Chan. Of course, she doesn’t know that P-Chan is in fact Ryoga, but he doesn’t want her to know. Ranma is jealous, but promised Ryoga not to say anything. That doesn’t stop Ranma from dropping some hints but Akane doesn’t understand what he means when he calls Ryoga Mr. P! At the same time, the Chinese guide from the “Training Grounds of Cursed Springs” makes an appearance.

 

            EPISODE 11: Akane is chosen to be her school’s gymnastics team champion and has to fight against a black-clad girl, who calls herself the “Black Rose”. She has a crazy laugh!!! When the rival meets Ranma, she won’t leave him alone anymore. At the end, we discover that she is Kuno’s twisted sister!

 

            EPISODE 12: Ranma helps Akane train for the upcoming martial arts rhythmic gymnastics match and unluckily, Akane falls down and twists her ankle. They have to find a sub for her, but who is nimble, knows martial arts, and is in good shape? Against her will, (female) Ranma will be caught in it.

 

            EPISODE 13: The match between Kodachi and Ranma continues. She has dirty tricks to play: she used her brother Kuno as a shield against Ranma’s attacks and hand-cuffed an angry P-Chan to female Ranma. If Kodachi wins, Ranma has to break off his engagement with Akane. If he wins, Kodachi has to forget Ranma forever.

 

            EPISODE 14: Dr. Tofu’s mother comes to visit her son with pictures of a prospective daughter-in-law! Since Akane knows that Dr. Tofu loves her sister Kasumi, she tells Dr. Tofu’s mother that she is his intended. For a slight fee, Nabiki does the same. Somehow, Ranma will get mixed up in all this. The mother decides then that the soon to become bride should have the biggest childbearing hips. At the end, she will understand that Dr. Tofu already has “chosen” someone and will leave.

 

            EPISODE 15:  Ranma discovers that it’s not too bad to be a girl sometimes. Now, he can eat ice-cream as a girl because he thinks it would be too embarrassing for a guy to do that. While Akane and “she” are eating in a restaurant, a cute girl tries to kill Ranma. She is an Amazon from China, called Shampoo, who has been chasing Ranma ever since he, as a girl, defeated her. According to her tribe traditions, Shampoo has to wed the man who defeats her or kill the woman who defeats her.

 

            EPISODE 16: Shampoo, who is now Ranma’s new “fiancée”, decides to use a secret memory-erasing shampoo formula on Akane. Now, Akane forgot everything about Ranma but remembers anyone else. Shampoo will offer Ranma the antidote only if he grants her a wish…

 

            EPISODE 17: Akane still can’t remember a thing about Ranma. Shampoo asked him to grant her a favor: kill (female) Ranma. He will persuade Ryoga to help him help Akane.

 

            EPISODE 18: Ranma announces that he wants to return to China. Genma will then talk to him and we will relive all the adventures Ranma had during this 1^st season.

 

SEASON 2 (Anything-Goes Martial Arts)

            EPISODE 1: Akane was resting with her friends when she realizes that she forgot P-Chan on the ice-ring. When she couldn’t find her pet pig, she went to Ranma in a restaurant to ask for help. They will find P-Chan in a girl’s arms, Azusa, who goes crazy for anything cute. Akane won’t give up her pet, so they settled for an anything goes martial arts figure-skating match. Problem is Ranma doesn’t know how to skate and they will fight against the “Golden Pair”. The cup is Charlotte, the newly named black pig. Ranma and Ryoga learn how to skate with Akane. Ranma, embarrassed, goes to the bathroom to change into a girl to continue. Then, they meet the “Golden Pair” again. The guy partner took (female) Ranma in his arms and managed to kiss her. Ranma, ashamed, ran in tears and comes back as a guy ready to fight his opponent.

 

            EPISODE 2: It’s time for the match. The guy partner swore to himself he was going to steal a kiss from Akane’s lips and of course Ranma won’t let that happen. The match isn’t as easy as it seemed. P-Chan is chained to the cup, but manages to get free.

 

            EPISODE 3: The match between the “Golden Pair” and Ranma and Akane continues. Somehow, Ryoga and female Ranma will substitute Akane and male Ranma to continue the fight.

 

            EPISODE 4: A mysterious stranger shows up on the Tendo’s doorsteps claiming to be Ranma’s long-lost Dad. Ranma’s real father, Genma, lost and starving in the wilds of Japan, traded baby Ranma to the stranger in exchange for some fish, rice, and two pickles. The stranger came here to reclaim Ranma and wed him to his own daughter for them to carry on the Daikoku School of Martial Arts Restaurant Takeout. Akane and the new fiancée will compete on a takeout race. The winner will stay with Ranma. Female Ranma will help Akane during the race.

 

            EPISODE 5: Tatewaki Kuno tries to find Ranma’s weak spot. Sasuke, his servant, finds it out for him by sneaking under the Tendo’s house. Ranma receives a box, opens it, and a purplish cat comes out of the box causing Ranma to scream and run across the room. Ranma is scared of … cats??? If he is exposed too long to a cat, he looses control and begins acting like a cat. The only way to stop him is an old neighbor who used to live next to his house and stroke him gently to appease him. Only problem: she died years ago. Unexpectedly, Ranma jumps on Akane’s laps and calmed, he kisses her.

 

EPISODE 6:
