| Gaia is the spirit of the earth and protector of the planet. It cause her great anguish and distress to see the damage done to the earth, seas, atmosphere and living creatures, and it is her watchful eye that alerts the Planeteers to the evil deeds of the Eco-Villains. Although she cannot physically leave Hope Island, she travels with the Planeteers ini spirit, appearing to them as a holographic image. In this way she can give advice and provide inspiration to both them and Captain Planet, helping them to solve the problems she has located. She watches over the earth fromo the crystal chamber on Hope Island and identifies ecological disasters via Planetvision--a series of crystalline screens that can not only show the past and present, but can also show the possible outcome of any ecological situation. Gaia loves Earth's children, but she is sorrowed by what they have done and worries about the future. Because she is the spirit of the earth, her health is directly linked to that of the planet. when the earth suffers, she suffers, too. But Gaia is eternally hopeful for the future and has faith that her children will realize the error of their ways, and right the wrongs that they have inflicted upon their home. |
