| David continued to walk back and forth in front of the Planeteers. "You know what? As much as I'd like to keep talking to you all, I've got some business to take care of," David turned on his heels to look evilly at the assembled Eco-Heroes, "but you can watch..." David removed the ring of Water, and then the rign of Nature, and then put the Water ring back on. David held the ring of Nature in his un-ringed hand. David looked up at the Planeteers. "Do you know the story behind this ring?" No one moved. "Hmm. Gaia wouldn't say, huh? Well, originally there were six rings and six Planeteers. I had this one." David paused, and the Planeteers looked between each other. Wheeler was still in some pain from the earth bands, and they were all worried about his well being. David continued, "I had a revelation! If the world was in such bad shape, why not return it to the way it once was? We did, after all, have the ability to change things." The Planeteers exchanged nervous glances. "But..." David went on, "The others didn't see things my way. They said the ring was affecting my mind. They defeated me and caused my ring to overgrow." David stopped and looked at his captives. They seemed confused. "You see," David explained, "the Native-Americans used to under-burn the forests so that they never got too congested and ended up over-growing. There would be too many plants, and they would end up killing each other. So, in the same way a forest can over-grow, my ring was. Earth and Water overcharged my ring, and I was unable to defend myself. I disappeared. But now I shall restore my ring to its former glory." David placed the green ring in the sand and sent a white-hot blast of flame at it. "First we burn it down," David commented. The fire disapeared as the ring turned white. "Then we regrow it," David finished. A column of rock lifted it up, and a column of water from the sea blasted the ring. Both stopped, and the bright green ring fell to the ground. David smiled and put it in its old spot, behind the ring of Water. Part 11 |
