Then Came the Rain

One night, I dreamed
That a butterfly chased me
Hunting me for sport.
That night, I dreamed
I was alone in a forest
A princess without a home.

One night, I dreamed
That alone in the woods
I was locked away
In a tall dark tower.
That night, I dreamed
Torns rose to my feet
And I cried.

Then came the rain.

One night, I dreamed
That I could fly
But then I would fall.
That night, I dreamed
I woke up hot and thirsty
Far away from home.

One night, I dreamed
That I wandered
Through the desert
That night, I dreamed
That the sun and the moon
Begged me to live
And I tried.

Then came the rain.

One night, I dreamed
I was a general
Leading an army
In a battle to lose.
That night, I dreamed
My soldiers lay helpless
At the enemys feet.

One night, I dreamed
I would give up my land
To wet dead tongues.
That night, I dreamed
Men screamed for me
To let them drink
Or all would die.

Then came the rain.

One night, I dreamed
I fell in love
With one I knew forever.
That night, I dreamed
I warmed his heart too much.
We were afraid.

One night, I dreamed
That he was burning
And I could do nothing.
That night, I dreamed
That I wept forever.
I thought I wept in vain,
And I cried.

Then came the rain.
