Summary

Keiichi Morisato had bad luck with women. Sure, a lot of guys have that problem from time to time. But Keiichi has this *big* problem: he's short (no pun intended!). What woman would go for the vertically impaired type of guy? (Even though he's cute as a button!)

One day in his dorm at Nekomi Tech., Keiichi decided to order take-out since his upperclassmen left him all alone to answer their incoming calls. He dialed several numbers, incorrectly dialing one of them and ended up calling the Goddess Helpline! Poof! Belldandy, a goddess instantly shows up (through the phone!) and tells Keiichi that she can grant him one wish. Keiichi, with his girl troubles, wishes that someone just like her could stay with him forever. Belldandy, seemingly misunderstanding, takes it that he wants *her* to stay with him forever! So starts off the wonderful romance between the two...but what about Belldandy's other goddess sisters Urd and Skuld? What do they have to do with the story? Let me just say, they make things crazier than they already are!

For those interested, the original Japanese name for this series is Aa! Megamisama, otherwise known as Ah! My Goddess. So why did I use Oh! My Goddess? Well, that's the title that this anime is under for U.S. commercial release, so I'll make it easier for the "anime knowledge impaired." :-) This series has a very long manga counterpart (comparable to Ranma?) but it's OVA  anime series runs only 5 episodes!

What I like about this series:

The romance element is definitely this anime's strong point. The romance between Keiichi and Belldandy, given the normal anime circumstances (that means it's weird!) develops quite well, and pretty quickly too. This is a relief for the hopeless romantic who has had too much of Ranma 1/2. This romance actually goes somewhere, and is a very sweet one at that. The things Keiichi and Belldandy do for each other just makes you want to say awww....

The visuals that go along with the great story are beautiful to look at! (What else *should* you expect from an OVA?) The character designs are top notch too! Kosuke Fujishima does a great job! (Check out Sakura Wars also if you like his sense of design!)

The comedy! What's a romantic anime without a few funny faces, nosebleeds, and superdeformity along the way? If you've watched this anime already, the "Mellow mellow" part made me really crack up, and I love it when Skuld daydreams and goes into "crayon" mode! Look at the picture below!

Skuld: Oneechan! Stay with me isntead of baka Keiichi!

The funny voices in this mode get to me too :-)

What I don't like about this series:

It's too short! At only five episodes, this series is too little of a good thing! Because of its length, certain details were also cut out of the anime, as opposed to the original (and long) story in the original manga by Fujishima-sama. Other than the length thing, I have nothing else to say in this section...(that's a good thing!)

The Ami Rating : Mellow mellow!

This is a great anime to watch for all you romantics out there, not to mention people who love to watch anime classics. Even though this series is very short, it is very popular among lots of anime fans. Perhaps the length of this series is a good thing for you "I'm too busy to watch anime" kind of people. Come on! Only five episodes to watch! You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll get that Warm and Fuzzy Feeling (WAFF) inside. How could so much go on in only five episodes? Beats me, but then again, it's best not to think about that too much and just enjoy the show.
