Prolog
It was a world of fear. Relying on suspicion and paranoia was the only way to stay alive. Trust, love, dreams, hope, happiness where all emotions of the past and forbidden for the sake of survival. The weak died off and the cruel hearted prevailed. Many clans were formed, kingdoms rebuilt, alike kindred banded together out of fear not loyalty. The planet was dyeing, and the air lingered with a mist sorrow. This is the world I grew up in and have always known.
The date was June 6th 2006 the day our world changed. Nightmares became reality. And our sun turned black. The earth was scorched but instead of burning, all the greens of the earth wilted as though the life was sucked out of them. The rivers and lakes dried up and the ice caps melted raising the ocean level at the same time the water evaporated into nothing, lucky, not to many drowned and only a hand full of islands and beaches were swallowed by the oceans. Many of the animals died, falling from exhaustion or going into a crazed fear killing themselves and the ones who survived where changed, tainted by the fear, each of their bodies suffered disturbing changes and their minds were driven mad. As for us humans? We were torn no we were reborn no longer what society could call one species, society no longer existed we were no longer human. Those who were outside during the darkness suffered the most. Their flesh was burned dark reds and midnight blacks, like the animals their bodies became horrifically changed growing wings, claws, tails, other demonic like qualities, and their eyes oh god their eyes when they were able to reopen them were scorched white. Now those who were indoors and were smart enough not to step out into the darkened world were the lucky ones, in one sense, they suffered no physical pain no physical change they remained human. However the mental damage they took make one wonder what was the worse fate. Trapped inside like a cage, unable to know what was going on outside those walls only hearing the screaming of the world, the ripping of flesh, the cries as people fell dead outside your door, and being unable to save them. Only few escaped the madness that overwhelmed those who hid inside. In many cases people had driven sharp objets through their heads to stop the screaming. The black sun lasted the full 24 hours and when it faded? A shock came to all those who lived. The corps they mourned for started to rise again their skin was pale and bodies drained of all fluids they looked like walking skeletons with flesh hanging from their bones. They did not breathe nor did their hearts beat but somehow they rose again and looked up to the sky. And as for those born on this day? They were born with their skin bleached of color eyes fully jet-black, other then that they seemed fairly normal at birth. And as for me? I was born on this day. And died as well.
My mother was one of the first to fall as the sky grew dark. My uncle and cousin were with her and drug her body inside a near by shack, they ran from the darkness and survived with their lives. My mother, was not so lucky, she died. It was only a few days before they expected me to be born. My uncle overcame his sorrow for the death of his elder sister and rushed to save my life. He took a dull fish-gutting knife, which he found in the shack, to my mothers womb. They cut me out of her and I was born. I cried as my two demonic wings stretched slightly from my back, my hands reached out with fingers tipped with claws. My cousin screamed and dropped me as she backed away at the site of my deformed body. My soft unprotected infant body fell hard onto the concrete floor and my voice was silenced as blood dripped from under my neck that twisted unnaturally to the side. My cousin and uncle sat in the shack starring at my mangled body and my mothers bleeding corps, they watched us in horror and listened to the screams outside. But like all the others my mother and I rose again
