OUR FAMILY ROOTS
My mother is a remarkable woman.  From the stories I have heard her tell, I know that as a child she faced many challenges most of us will never know.  Momma never let her childhood hold her back in any way, and because of her beginnings or maybe in spite of them, she is the kind of person I have been extremely blessed to have as my mother.  She has always been loving, generous, strong, gracious, and most of all someone who had a solid core of integrity and honor.  I have always strived to be the kind of woman my mother is.  I feel blessed with every day that I have the opportunity to spend with her.

Momma is the daughter of Vince Withcher WHITE and Bessie Lee HORN.  Bessie died when Momma was 4 years old and Poppie married Ioda Belle KEEN.  Poppie also married Hattie Brown and raised her son, Harry Brown.

My Poppie died in March 1969.  I was a little girl and I don't have lots of memories of him, but to me he was wonderful and I always love to hear stories about him

Momma has been after me to research our family as long as I can remember, and once I started I was amazed by two things, one, how very much she remembered and two, by how quickly I was bitten by the genealogy bug.

I would never have been able to carry our tree and related lines as far as I have with the help of some wonderful people.  I would just like to name some of them.  Lucy Church, thank you for sharing your pictures and wonderful stories with us all!  Harvey Norris, for sharing your files, Linda J. Doolittle for your help and stories about the Day family, Johnnie Rexrode for sharing your information on the Pruitts, and for the many people who are quick to answer that email question and share with others!!

This page is dedicated to my mother, Charlotte Zell (WHITE) KEENE, who grew up in the mountains of western Virginia.
