Cool 54 degree weather greeted the
riders for the last April ride.
The route ridden on the night was the classic out and back route to the fire tower on County Highway W. The group was content to take an easy spin on the way out averaging approximately 18 MPH. Several riders turned back by the Sawyer County line for which there was no sprint. After a short stop at the turn around point the pace quickly picked up. Kyle Schmitt (who later commented that he felt he was getting his legs) quickly upped the pace to 30 MPH for a couple of stretches to wear down the accompanying group. Riders immediately started to fall off of the pack. It was on the hill after the Flambeau River that the final selection was made. At this point Kyle and Joe went away shedding John and Bryan. Kyle and Joe would lead the group in with John and Bryan following and Mark Peterson finishing shortly thereafter. Another great Phillips post ride meal was enjoyed by the riders. The repast consisted of seasoned potatoes, salmon on a bed of angel hair pasta, a spinach, avocado and strawberry salad, seasoned rice, chicken wings, and brownies for desert. For an appetizer, chips and salsa were available. And to top it off, Jeff had a fine selection of beer from this writers favorite brewery, the Stevens Point Brewery.
