This had to be the windiest night ever. Stiff breezes from the south-southwest made for a challenging ride. A south and westerly route was selected. The final selection consisted of the Anderson tandem, The Peterson tandem, Joe, John, and Bryan. In the sprint Joe was the winner on the evening. But enough about riding. The real reason these sixteen riders showed up on the night was to enjoy the repast artfully prepared by Julie Zumach. Julie has long been considered the doyenne of post ride meals. For the main dish Julie prepared a south-west flavored shredded turkey served with hearty whole wheat buns. The tangy turkey sandwiches were perfectly suited to awakening a palate put to sleep by warm water and Gatorade. To complement the finely seasoned turkey Julie next offered a twist on the familiar potato salad recipe. This potato salad was prepared in a light oil dressing. The salad contained corn and black olives among other ingredients. The salad was akin to a warm potato dish with it flavor. It made a fine companion to the spicy shredded turkey. To complement the main and side dishes Julie prepared a mandarin orange salad. I always call these a fluff as salads such as this are in a light whipped medium. The bright orange flavor of the salad further added to the two other items on the menu. Finally, I topped off my evenings post ride meal (I had two turkey sandwiches to testify to their fine quality) by enjoying a slice of poppy seed cake. A strawberry cake was on the menu as well. The sweetness of the cake made for a great finish to a fine post ride meal. This cake was moist and rich with a light, sweet flavor. There is nothing finer than a light desert to round out a meal and leave a person fully satiated.
