Phillips 8-13-08 The Peterson Estate
A mix of old and new faces were on hand for the evening ride. Bryan, Rick, the Harris', Nathan, the Zumachs, Jeff, and Kyle were all on hand. In addition, Marc and Emma rode together, Megan and Zoe rode together, and Jeff, Fin and Ani rode together (on a tandem and a trailer bike). Finally, AJ Ettmayer from La Crosse joined for an evening of fun.
The group headed out Hwy H and enjoyed the new pavement prior to ascending the hill at Sheep Ranch road. The group continued at a brisk pace into the Elk River valley and then had a surprise with an unplanned section of pea gravel. Not knowing how far the new surface would continue, the group turned on Musser Drive. The Harris tandem stayed back with Nathan when he dropped his chain. After the turn on Musser the threesome quickly rejoined the main group. Todd and Julie enjoyed a time trial back to the finish.
The main group jockied for position prior to the finish sprint at Sandy Lane. Kyle tried to break away from the group but was out sprinted by AJ for the finish. The post ride meal was artfully created by Megan and consisted of homemade salsa, spicy pulled chicken, watermelon, apple cake, molasses cookies and of course, beer.
