Ride Report July 23, 2008
Phillips: Joe Coyle's House An intrepid group of 15 riders braved the perfect conditions found in Phillips this evening. Attending included; Scott & Nancy, Tom & Katrina, Todd & Julie, John, Nathan, Michelle, Jason, Jeff K., Chris, Joe, Megan and Kyle. Route Master Joe selected a circuitous course east of Phillips on Hwy D, Little Elk, Little Chicago and Hwy K. At the top of the hill on Hwy K Joe had a flat tire. Todd and Julie left ahead of the main group to avoid being caught on Bed and Breakfast hill. Once on D, the main group never caught the Zumach tandem because the tandem continued due east whereas the group turned north on H. The group then took Martin's drive out to D. The group then met with Terry Dunbar and rode with him to his llama farm. Megan and Nancy turned off early and headed back to Joe's on D. Todd and Julie took the reverse course and then added the hills on Cherry Road. They caught Megan and Nancy on D. The main group caught the slower group on D and continued on to the finish at Joe's. It was reported that Kyle pulled the group for about six miles and then proceeded home. The Harris tandem won the sprint*, Joe second, and John in third. *Joe contends that since the Harris tandem arrived without a front wheel and Joe supplied a spare that he should get extra credit. So let the record show that Joe's front wheel took first. The post ride meal consisted of Italian beef, chicken, pasta, a veggie tray and chips and dip. If that didn't fill you up, a chocolate desert was provided. Oh, and there was lots of beer too. Next week the ride is in Medford at Ken Kraft's house.
