Ride Report July 16, 2008
The Flambeau Freewheelers were 17 riders strong for the Wednesday July 16 ride in Rib Lake. Riders on hand were Todd, Mark, Megan, Shayne ,Vickie, Joe, Jeff, John, Mindy, Paula, Tom, Katrina, Jason, Rick, Nathan, Ken Jones, and Bryan on a beautiful night for biking.
The group rode north and west out of Rib Lake on County D. At Westboro the group proceeded south on Fisher Creek Road to Chelsea. From Chelsea the group headed south on Settlement Drive. On the hilly curve out of Chelsea the group started to split up. Just before Whittlesey the group slowed up to allow riders to regroup except for Jason and Jeff who continued on at a brisk pace.
Once on County M a chase of Jeff and Jason formed. The chasers consisted of pretty much the whole group. However with a pace of around 24 - 26 MPH riders began to be spit out the back. By the time the group turned onto County C the chase group was down to Joe, John, the Harris tandem, the Peterson tandem, Vickie, and Bryan.
The chasers caught sight of Jeff and Jason on C and continued their pursuit. A heroic pull by Joe Coyle brought the last of the chasers within spitting distance of the breakaway duo. Only the Peterson tandem was able to get close enough to contest the sprint.
After the ride the group enjoyed the fine atmosphere of the Frosted Mug. Special thanks goes to Joe Coyle for finding the Tour on Versus.
Remember the July 23 ride in Phillips has been moved to Joe Coyle's house.
