Ride Report April 9, 2008
Mother Nature continued her attempts to thwart the Flambeau Freewheelers but she was defeated. Even with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees, enough riders showed up at the Roberts home to make it official. This ride report was provided by hostess Vickie Roberts.

Six riders made it for the first Phillips ride. Bryan Bormann and Chris Davis continue their uninterrupted string (of two) rides and are tied in the perfect attendance competition. Of course Vickie Roberts hosted, but her husband Shayne was absent because he was enjoying the early Spring weather of northern Poland due to work commitments. Mark Temme made his first appearance, and he brought in a new rider. Michelle ?? is another triathlete (where does Mark keep finding them)who reportedly rode strong with the group. Finally, in a surprise appearance, Jason Rusch came up from the Medford area. We are researching when Jason last rode with the group, but we are glad to see him back.

Due to the weather being somewhat less than hospitable, a route that kept the riders close to Phillips was chosen. The group headed out Hwy W and then enjoyed the new pavement near the Birch Island resort. Turning east, they assaulted the hills on Dama road and Springs drive and then enjoyed the flats on south Worcester road. Ambition got the better of them when they hit Little Elk road and they headed south to Little Chicago. A chilly down hill awaited them as they turned north on Hwy K and then the long ride back into Phillips on Hwy D. The target length was 20 miles, but Vickie said that turn south on Little Elk pushed them closer to 23.

This being the second ride of the season, the small chain ring rule was still in effect so the pace was well controlled. Chris Davis won the sprint at the finish.

Post ride vittles consisted of the standard pizza and beer. But these were augmented by Thomas Roberts' homemade crepes with strawberries and Vickie served up a kickin' Texas Caviar. Watch for a new section to this website featuring recipes from post ride meals (if you provide them, I will post them).

Next ride is in Medford, at Bryan Bormann's house. As of this writing on Saturday, April 12th, we have an excellent weather forecast with temperatures expected in the 50's.
