Ride Report - July 18, 2007
Rib Lake
Beautiful Rib Lake, and everyone crossing their fingers that it will be a dry ride. The sun is
shining nicely Rib Lake and north, but to the southwest there are angry looking clouds. But the
decision was made to take the Mondeaux loop. It would serve as a good preview for the final night ride.
We had a good turnout tonight. Bryan, Nathan, Tom and Katrina, Mindy from the south. Chris and Jeff
came down from the far north. Mark, John, Joe, Todd and Julie, Shayne and Vickie, came in from Phillips.
(Hope I didn't miss anybody.)
Heading out on D towards Westboro is a nice generally downhill ride. But we had a little trouble with
traffic as we neared Westboro. A couple of cars behind us just wouldn't pass, seems no matter what we did.
Through Westboro one tried to take a different route and ended up behind us again. Then as
we were going up "the hill" on the other side of 13 a couple more vehicles piled up behind us
and were very hesitant to go around, even when we were single file (which it took a while for
us to get into). Some people just don't understand how much, or how little room they can leave.
Always love how they go completely into the other lane to pass one bike.
We got a little strung out on the first portion of the ride, and some turned back for a shorter ride
at the park entrance. Up at the second park entrance, a brief break was taken, at which time the humidity
and the skeeters really hit hard. It had rained there not long before, and the roads were slightly wet.
On the way through the park, Vickie blew out her front tire. The first fix didn't take, as the hole
in the tire was quite large. Through the ingenuity of generosity of others, Vickie was back on the road.
On the final leg in, Jeff, Bryan, and Joe dusted everyone else.
Pizza and drinks were waiting as we entered the Frosted Mug. Nice addition, that second pizza oven.
Next week we're in Phillips at the Hendricks estate. Bring your appetite. Good food ahead.
