Ride Report - August 23, 2007

Medford, Brian's House

An intrepid group of ten riders arrived in Medford tonight for what would turn out to be one of the best rides of the summer. The Zumachs and Harris' represented the tandems. John and Joe filled out the remainder of the Phillips contingent. Ken Jones, on summer vacation from his new home in Puerto Rico, got the longest distance travelled to ride distinction (and that wasn't because he got home today from his mountain bike mini-vaction in Wyoming). Brian and Nathan represented the Medford riders. Mindy, soon to be Mrs. Wagner, came up from Owen just three days before her wedding (now that's dedication!).

The route was a familiar one to most FFBC riders with a new twist. We headed out of Medford on Hwy Q (AKA Pig Hill). Then turned west on the newly repaved Hwy M. We headed north on Hwy E for a short bit until we cut east on Keyes road. After a few minutes of up and down fun, we came in just north of Sackett's Lake(the lake is usually one of the turnaround points for our early season rides).

We took Hwy M and Q back into Medford to wrap up the 28 mile circuit. The group all stayed together at a "comfortable" 20.2 mph average and it didn't get crazy until the final sprint at the finish in which the youngsters on the Harris tandem once again proved the advantages of youth.

We retired to Brian's for some excellent chips and salsa, followed by home-made sloppy-Joes all washed down with the beverage of our choice.

Next week is the season finale and will againg be staged from the Little's Bar in downtown Westboro. Don't forget the start is at 6:00 p.m. Awards by our master of ceremonies will follow. Oh, and Julie might have some treats too.
