FLAMBEAU FREEWHEELERS BICYCLE CLUB

RIDE REPORT

Wednesday, June 21, Medford the Pie Ride! A large group of riders showed up for the 2006 version of The Pie Ride. We had 14 regular riders and four new riders show up for the event. I would like to think that it is the spirit of healthy competition that brings people together for this ride. But in reality I知 sure it痴 the thought of a good post ride desert that gets people out on their bikes for this event.

The route for The Pie Ride was the scenic trip around the back sides of Sacketts Lake and Lake Esadore. The riders pretty well held together until the big hill on Castle Road. It was here that Chuck Way and Kyle Schmitt held a steady pace up the hill that the rest of the group could not match. No finishing sprint was contested, but I知 sure that it would have come down to a contest between these two strong men in the end.

THE 50 MILE RIDE. We are trying to get back to our former tradition of riding one 50 mile ride in the course of the season. We will try to do this ride on Wednesday, June 28 at the Rib Lake Ride. This is the time of the year when he sun sets the latest. Please be ready to ride at 6:30 sharp! The route will be as follows:

We will head east on Highway 102 to County Highway C. We will turn right or south on County Highway C to County Highway M. We will turn right or head west on County Highway M to Whittlesey Avenue after we cross Highway 13. On Whittlesey Avenue we値l turn left on or south on Ball Bark Drive. We値l take Ballpark drive a short distance back to County Highway M. We値l turn right or west on County Highway M to County Highway E. When we reach the corner of County Highway M and County Highway E, we値l turn right or north on County Highway E. At the corner of County Highway E and County Highway D we値l turn right or east on County Highway D toward Westboro. We will cross Highway 13 and continue on County Highway D into Rib Lake. The finishing sprint will be at the near side of the high school tennis courts in Rib Lake.

We will not allow anyone to be dropped before we cross Highway 13 in Westboro with about 10 miles left to ride. We will probably try to keep the pace at 20 plus miles per hour after a five mile roll out so that we can finish safely in the light. If you have a tail light, please bring it.

We will also be drawing for the 2006 Tour De France pool on this evening. Please bring an extra dollar. If you pick the right name you could multiply your investment out to $16 or more dollars. No whiners please!

Thanks to everyone for making the 2006 Pie Ride a huge success!
