Your Mistake

Gee, I'm sorry,
but you lost it.
You let it all fly away,
and now it's that missing sock
in the laundry.
Oh, gosh!  How pitiful you look
now
with no one around.
Nah, it was foolish,
you say,
it was worthless,
you say softer--
it was a drop of water?
in the ocean?

Not so sure,
are you now?

You stand there
opening your mouth
and only squeaks come out.
You stand there
ashamed and perplexed,
questioning your decision.
You stand there
for a brief pause
pondering the possible effects.
You stand there
with your pen about to leap on the page,
trying to think
for the first time in your life.

You giggle, you laugh,
you don't care.
All worries skip away
and everything is fine.

Oh yes, my dear,
everything is fine,
assuming
food does not fulfill,
a rainbow is black,
thoughts are outlawed,
carelessness reigns
and perfection is no longer wanted.
Back home!
