Living in Korea
- around and about Jiri-san National Park

A view of Jiri Mountain park

I live near the Jiri-san (Jiri Mountain) National Park,in the Kyungnam region, one of the most beautiful natural places in Korea. Within it's borders lies Chong Wang Bong, at 1915 metres one of the highest mountains in Korea. Inside the park is a bear sanctuary as well plenty of walks for the very fit to the lesser mortals (such as me).

There's lots to see in this area so I will put up some pictures and a small commentary on the more interesting places I visit as well other things. At the moment this is around where I am living and that is in the Sancheong county, which lies to the east of Jiri-san.

The Jiri-san Park was the first Park to be setup (1967). It is also the largest of the National Parks on mainland Korea and receives a few million visitors every year. Unfortunately not many of those are "foreigners" but if you want to visit there are a few hotels and many "minbak' or bed and breakfast type places where you can stay very cheaply.

The National Road No.20 ends at one of the park's entrances on it's eastern side.
