Bridgestone tyres close up Formula One™ racing tyre suppliers Bridgestone came away from Imola delighted with Ferrari's one-two finish, but admitted in a press release that they would have liked to have seen more of their teams finish in the points.

Bridgestone runners Ferrari dominated the San Marino Grand Prix, after which winner Michael Schumacher paid tribute to the Japanese company's tyres, developed especially for the Imola track. Team mate Rubens Barrichello finished second, while the next Bridgestone car was the BAR of Jacques Villeneuve in seventh place.

"The perfect result as far as our collaboration with Ferrari goes," said Bridgestone Motorsport's technical manager Hisao Suganuma. "But it was a shame our other teams could not exploit the good performance of our new tyres.

"From a tyre point of view I am happy because as well as being very competitive, we had no problems here with the consistency or wear. I am pleased for BAR and Jacques with their 7th place but it is a pity Sauber left empty handed after performing well this weekend.

After Ferrari lost out to Michelin runners Williams in last year's San Marino race, Bridgestone president Shigeo Watanabe said he was pleased to have witnessed the team's triumph on Sunday.

"A very good day for all our staff, both at Imola and in Japan," he said. "This is the first race I have attended this year and a one-two finish was the best result I could have hoped for. I was also pleased to hear Michael Schumacher's comments about his tyres after the race."

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn also paid tribute to Bridgestone's role in his team's victory, saying: "The tyre was very, very good and Bridgestone proved that its products are more than a match for the competition."
