# 1.          Explain Rutherford’s gold foil experiment and the conclusions he reached.

                Helium nuclei were bombarded at a piece of gold foil. Amazingly some of the helium nuclei bounced back as if they had hit a brick wall when in fact they were being shot at a piece of toilet paper ( analogy) . Ritherford surmised the only way this could happen was if the centre of the atom was a dense concentration of positive charge ( protons) . Form this he deduced the nuclear atomic model.

# 2.          A 4.0 cubic metre block of iron has a mass 31600 kg.  Using proper problem solving format (i.e. showing ALL work ) find the density of iron.

                D=m/

                D= 31600KG/4M3

                D= ?????????

#3.           Identify five methods of asexual reproduction and explain each briefly

                budding, Fragmentation, Binary fission, vegetative reproduction,  an one I can’t remember right now. LOOK IN THE TEXT and YOU explain

# 4.          Name five organelles found in a typical cell and what each of their functions are:

2.

3.

4.

5.

 # 5          Explain what happens  in terms of heat & volume during all five changes of state.

                Ie/ when water evapourates, VAPOURIZATION – increase in heat and increase in volume, you do the rest

# 6.          In chart form identify 5 planets and give one unique characteristic of each..

# 8           Use diagrams to show how an object is charged by induction. Be sure to label

We did these in class they are, or should be in your notes, if not they are in the chapter on static electricity

# 9           List the parts, and describe the function, of the parts of the cell that are not common to both  the plant and animal cell.(centriole, chloroplast etc.)

ALL YOURS

# 10.        Identify five interplanetary objects and describe each.

                Ie/ meteor, comet, asteroid etc etc etc

# 11         Identify five reproductive technologies and describe each briefly

Straight from text

# 12         In chart form, identify five different types of atoms and give an example of each

                IE/ halogen- neon, alkali – lithium, etc etc

#13.  Using the first 10 elements only, give the chemical formula and  name for five compounds.

Ie/  oxygen, and carbon =>  CO carbon monoxide

#14.         List the five stages of mitosis in order and identify a unique occurrence in each phase.

Straight from text and notes

#15. Name five moons in our solar system other than our own. Use proper names.

DO some research on the planets and their moons, Jupiter has 12

#16. Identify two practical uses of static electricity and three practical uses of current electricity.

Straight from notes

#17. In flow chart form explain how you would separate a mixture of salt, sand and iron filings
