Endowment Fund 2006 Campaign Message
March 30, 2006
To All "66ers"We’re back with our 2006 Campaign to meet the final goal of raising $7000 in just 7 months! This message will bring you up to date.
When this goal is reached, our class fund will be able to provide more deaf students with an opportunity to receive an excellent education at Gallaudet University. Our past fundraising efforts have shown that our many classmate donors (those who graduated and who exited) believe in such worthy efforts.
Our current campaign goal is to increase the fund by $7000 to reach the principal amount of $25,000 by October 21, 2006.
To recap the fundraising efforts for 2005, the Class of 1966 Scholar-Athlete Endowment Fund grew by $3000 in just five months!
The current principal balance in our Endowment Fund is $18,027. We want to reach $25,000, so that Gallaudet will pay out $250 per quarter = $1000 per year, to meet our two $500 awards that are given out each spring. This is why the committee is striving for $25K principal.
After much deliberation, our fund is now called The Class of 1966 Endowment Fund, which will recognize two all around students, one female and one male, with awards of $500 each to be given on an annual basis.
It became necessary to modify the GPA to 3.0 to allow for more flexibility in choosing students who demonstrate leadership ability and involvement in athletics. The new 3.0 requirement will allow Gallaudet to offer more eligible students financial help with tuition. The previous GPA of 3.5 was more stringent, and our awards were being given to a small group of students who also received merit and other scholarships, leaving others with 3.0 - 3.4 GPA’s without possible assistance.
To kick off the 2006 Campaign, the Committee has thus received new donations from 10 special friends’ committee members (Fund and Reunion) and interested parties, amounting to the sum of $1000.
| Attached is the current principal fund chart. In a future email, the committee will do another chart to show how our earnings/interest has been spent since the first awards were made in 2004. The earnings are not a part of the current principal balance. |
Just think: 70 classmates at $100 = $7000! And fundraising efforts can then cease!
Won’t you join us in meeting our $7000 fundraising campaign by sending in your check for $100 today?
Thank you.
