In 1986, Ernie transferred to the Peikoff Alumni House ("Ole Jim") and worked as the Facility Coordinator and Alumni Records Manager until his retirement in 2000. In recognition of his outstanding service to the Alumni House and the Gallaudet University Alumni Association, he was presented with the President's Award by the GUAA in 1989.
