This is bus #7038, shown at Dadeland North on February 4, 1999 at 7:10 AM. It was the 7:12 AM 87 bus here. It is carrying a baby wrap for Guess Jeans - if you look closely, on the right half you can see the words "Guess Boys" on the ad. You'll also notice that the bottom right side has been cut away. It was cut away during repairs that were made after a March 1998 accident that breifly made this bus the most infamous Metrobus in Dade County. What happened was that one afternoon, this bus, which was most likely out of service since it was empty, was winding through the neighborghood adjacent to the FIU-South (a.k.a. University Park) campus. The driver spotted an 11 bus a a bus stop ahead of him. He passed the bus. Apparently the bus stop was also adjacent to a stop sign (maybe 4-way), which the driver wound up running. A school van full of kids blew the other stop sign (if there was one.) and hit the bus in that spot where the sticker is cut away. The van was totaled and a lot of kids got hurt. Miami was scandalized by the accident. The media hyped the Metrobus driver's spotty record and generally ignored the school van driver's nearly identical record. This accident has become legend, and it goes like this: the residents there had been complaining that the 11 bus was routed through their neighborghood, which was residential. Seeing a chance to get the 11 yanked out of the area, the witnesses to the crash lied about the van driver running the stop sign. They achieved their goal- the Metrobus driver was fired , and the 11 was rerouted , and for a while had to make this idiotic u-turn on SW 114 Ave. that resulted in a comic accident a month later involving 4009 that is in the storybook. This, however, is only legend, and may not be totally true. In any case, the baby wrap was peeled off in March 1999, and it ran bare until mid-September, when it, along with 7032,7035, 7040,7045,7049 and 7051 were given baby-wraps for Mega 103.5 FM.
