my first morning in Siroki Brijeg.
The photos were taken at the site
where the thirty Franciscans of Siroki Brijeg were martyred.
Combined, they visually express the pilgrimage experience itself.
Entering the chamber where the forty men were burned to death by the Communists, each breath I took became a challenge to absorb the enormity of this type of sacrifice, their gift, their "yes" to God. While it was like entering a tomb, it was also entering into my own heart and soul, entombed by so many things. I prayed to be able to die to myself: to give all to Him and hold nothing back; and rise with Jesus -- to experience His Resurrection within me. |
