Here are a couple pictures of Yosemite from Inspiration Point, THE photopoint of Yosemite.

Inspiration Point: August 29, 2000-2001

We arrived in Yosemite on Tuesday, August 29, 2000-2001 to find that the sunny, bright, 100 degree weather I'd been reading about all summer had turned into drizzly, foggy, no good, very bad weather, with slightly smokey air due to a nearby fire. This weather prevailed the next day as well, threatening our planned Thursday hike up the Dome. You are supposed to see Half Dome way in the distance between the "V" of the mountains.

Fortunately, I had visited Yosemite in early May of this year as well (am I obsessed or what?) and took the following, much clearer picture:

Inspiration Point: May 2, 2000-2001

In the foreground are a bunch of gung-ho photographers with expensive cameras trying to get a unique shot that 500 million other people don't have. On the left is one of Yosemite's landmarks, El Capitan (7569 ft) and on the right are the Cathedral Rocks with Bridalveil Fall cascading down them. (By August, this waterfall had become a trickle, as if someone were spritzing water from the top.) Way in the distance, the dome-shaped outcrop with the black stripe down the middle, is Half Dome.
