Music

For now, before I do anything fancy, this will just be in text. Music. I love music. Playing or listening.

Since October of 1991, I've been taking piano lessons. between 98-00 (about two years, for those math wizes) I took a break. Currently I am taking piano lessons.

I played trumpet(noticed I used played instead of play) from 4th grade till the middle of 8th grade. Then, at the advisement of my band directors, the lack of ability of my trumpet playing, and the shortage of this instrument, I switched to baritone/euphonium treble clef. As far as band, I have been playing that ever since.

In 9th grade, I joined marching band. I play the bartione, too, during the fall. For the 2001-02 I am the baritone section leader for the SMHS Panther Pride.

In the summer of '99, I learned how to play the acoustic guitar. It was at Centrifuge, an annual church camp in Tennessee, where I took the beginner course. It was, in my opinion, God's intervention in this. Before, I had really no interest in guitar playing. My uncle had a guitar which I attempted to learn by myself by looking at a chord book, but that didnt work.

One of my good friends, Paul, had said before going to Centrifuge, that he was interested in taking the beginner's guitar class. When it came time to fill out our choices for track times, I decided to pick that. It was partly (a)nothing better to do and to follow him and (b)for adventure.

So for the 5-6 days of track time, the one instructor attempted to teach guitar to 20 some odd students. Some succeeded, some failed. I seemed to have caught on. To save time, after I got back from camp, I convinced my mom to buy me (paying her back) an acoustic guitar. I somehow succeeded. I have a Takamine G330 acoustic.

I haven't taken lessons from anyone since. I basically find tabs of the internet. Advice to people beginning: just practice. I know that is to cliche, but it is true. Now, if you dont think you have a thing for music, then lessons may be good. But, if not, save yourself some money. Currently I play for fun, but specifically, in the youth group in our praise band. I have not yet acquired an electric, so that can give you an idea on what i can play. Also, if you need any help, tips, in general or to songs, feel free to ask. I think thats that, and onto the next section.....

Singing ability-or lack there of. No, not really. I consider myself an o-k singer. My range would be baritone-tenor. If you want to get real technical, I can safely hit an Eb after a little warming up. In the elementary-middle school years I occasionally did chorus/choir in school and church. Recently, in '00, I sang in a church youth choir production, Friends 4 Ever, and during other church services performances. Thats that.......

woo hoo i just got an electric for Christmas....fender squier strat, black......i'm beginning to adapt to it and the differences from acoustic....
