Bees

I have been fascinated with these little creatures since I was a kid. I recall going barefoot as a child and having my first encounter. I also remember watching the observation hive we had at school for hours. What a wonder bees are, working from can to can't (as we say back home). Their entire focus is the survival of the hive (what type of world would this be if we all were so selfless?). I plan to include photos and comments about my experiences with my bees on this page. I am Top Bar Hive guy and plan to continue with TBH's because it fits me best at this point in my life. Thanks for taking time to stop, read, and look around.

I have had bees for three years now. I got my first introduction to tbh's through the internet and Mr. James Satterfield's web site. My hives are straight sided boxes. I have experienced some brace or burr comb making it difficult to work my hives. Brace comb can slow down the inspection process, at best, or cause the comb to break away from the top bar when working a hive. This spring (03) I fashioned a tool to cut the brace comb as I work my hive, follow this link for two photos of the cutting tool. Maybe it can be of some use to you.
